As a single mom and first-generation, non-traditional student, Gyan learned to self-navigate the higher-education system because she had to. In 2008, she graduated with a BA in Psychology, a Masters in Professional Coaching, a 3.79 GPA, and a mountain of debt. While in college, Gyan struggled to balance her studies, parenting, and migraines. As tuition fees piled up, she found locating scholarships was confusing and overwhelming. There was so much information, she didn’t know which sources to trust or how to begin. Sadly, she’s not alone. Each year, students juggle schoolwork and grades, class attendance and part-time jobs, leaving little to no time for procuring precious scholarship money.
Gyan believes students should have the opportunity to graduate without mortgaging their future or majoring in student debt. For the last ten years, Gyan has extensively researched legitimate scholarships, uncovered scholarship scams, learned how to effectively utilize search engines.
Gyan has been a self-employed educational consultant and publisher for 30 years and a professional coach for 15 years. The “Get a College Degree without Drowning in Debt” series is a direct result of her in-depth research and personal experience. When not writing and speaking to groups, she enjoys wildcrafting herbs to make herbal remedies, drumming, Nordic skiing, and exploring Vermont’s swimming holes. She occasionally teaches Middle School for fun.
